Greenlick Announces "Oregon Prescription Cost Savings Act" Proposal

Maine Senate Majority Leader Will Discuss Her Landmark Legislation to Reduce Prescription Drug Costs

News Conference Scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Elsie Stuhr Center in Beaverton

Mitch Greenlick, candidate for the Oregon House of Representatives (District 7), will release a proposal to reduce prescription drug costs in Oregon at a news conference with the Majority Leader of the State Senate in Maine.

"Drug companies and their profits are out of control," said Greenlick. "This plan will allow Oregon citizens to join together voluntarily to force the drug companies to reduce their prices. It's simple; it's like buying in bulk at Costco. The drug companies won't like it because it means lower profits for them. But Oregon citizens will pay lower prices in the end."

State Senator Chellie Pingree, the author of Maine's law, will discuss the legislation passed there. Prescription drug costs are expected to be reduced by over 30% in the coming years because of Pingree's law.

"Maine's law may not be exactly what we need in Oregon. But it does indicate we can reduce prescription drug costs by using the purchasing power of the state to negotiate with the drug companies on behalf of our citizens," said Greenlick.
